Marie Styles gained a BA in Fine Art at the University of Gloucestershire in 2001 followed by an MA in 2005.

Her work explores everyday human existence mainly through the lone figure in moments of introspection. It evolves from an emotional response to the subject, taking advantage of the unpredictability of paint, using a dark tonal keyand limited palette to convey mood and contain the figure within their emotional and immediate environment.

She was awarded the RWA purchase prize at their Open Painting Exhibition in 2001 and has shown work in the RWA Autumn Exhibitions and The Discerning Eye at the Mall Galleries, London.
