Admiring the beauty of coloured glass in its many forms Debbie Hulme was struck by a quote from William Morris (“If you can make it with your hands do” or words to that effect). She made a piece of stained glass with Ruth Adams at Stroud College. A challenge. This led her to try to making mosaics.
Debbie finds this absorbing, mindful and enjoyable. She uses a variety of materials in her work – sea glass, coloured glass, china, shells, glass fusions, millefiori – to create colour, movement and texture using iridescent glass and tesserae shot through with gold to make the mosaics shimmer. A workshop in Ravenna with Martin Cheek in 2015 was inspirational.
